Overcoming Canadian Inadmissibility
Given our office’s close proximity to the United States and many land borders, we have assisted countless Canadians with various US immigration law matters. We know which border crossings (we call them ports of entry) are fair and which ones to avoid. We also frequently work with the US Consulate in Toronto and other US Consulates throughout Canada, including the Embassy in Ottawa.

E-2 or E-1 Visas
Treaty Investor and Treaty Trader work visas are processed through the Department of State at the US Consulate in Toronto. This is because there is significant paperwork involved and a formal interview process. Once a visa is obtained, entering the US at a land border or by flying in is a breeze. There are a series of legal tests for both types of visas but essentially it’s for those looking to buy a business in the U.S. or for those involved in trading with the U.S.
L-1 Intracompany Transfers
These work permits can be obtained pursuant to the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement right at the border for Canadian citizens who wish to transfer to a parent, branch, affiliate or subsidiary. The employee must has worked for the Canadian entity for at least one year in an executive/managerial role or in one requiring “specialized knowledge.”
USMCA TN Professionals
These work permits are only available for a select group of professionals which is set out in the Treaty. Specific requirements apply to each and our extensive experience allows us to advise on the types of supporting documentation required.
US Renunciations
This is for American citizens who no longer wish to carry US citizenship. We have assisted many individuals. Not only do we handle the paperwork, but we also prepare you for the interview and warn you about a ground of inadmissibility which you will need to be cognizant of for all future visits to the U.S.
I-192 Waivers of Inadmissibility
These waivers are available for Canadian citizens who have been convicted of a crime or who overstayed in the United States. We have significant experience with formulating legal submissions and advising on critical supporting documentation for these waivers.
